Find a picnic spot on the nearby Lake Eucumbene and enjoy trout fishing or for something different, visit the highest settlement in Australia (when the road allows), Cabramurra.

We'd find it hard to leave the cosy cottage (too busy fawning over the interiors) and fire pit but a wander down to the river for a picnic and a fire is too good to miss. The property is on the banks of the Maclaughlin River, a well-known fly-fishing stream, so BYO lemon and butter for a tasty rainbow trout cooked on the open fire!
It's a short drive (1hr and 15mins) to Thredbo for a day on the slopes in the winter season or take a meandering drive to the south coast gem of Merimbula during the summer. The region is brimming with places to explore.
