Tassie…3 places you need to know about in 2024

Views from the Granary, Cressy

The Granary, Cressy

Tasmania seems to have it all. Stunning beaches, wilderness, culture, creativity and - (a brief pause for significance) - room to breathe. If you have been thinking about exploring the apple isle in 2024, here are a few of the best places to stay.

For last-minute planners, Summer is a beautiful time to visit! The days are longer, the weather is warm - but not ridiculous - and there is plenty on, including Festivale Launceston (details below). Or book for Autumn and enjoy the next few months of dreaming!

We'll take you on a tour of the North-West and introduce a few unique Stay in the Bush properties. Discover the villages around Cressy, the spectacle of Cradle Mountain and the beauty of Guide Falls. Relax in a luxurious converted Post Office from the turn of the century.

Each Shack Sleeps 2, 1 bedroom in each

Bushy & Rosy Summers

Strahan, TAS

A private and cosy place looking over Lettes Bay...We've long wanted to curl up and write a novel in Bushy Summers, a cottage designed to nurture and inspire.

Artist and owner, Claire, has now launched a converted miner's shack in Lettes Bay called Rosy Summers. It is pink and perfect. Think a log fires and huge linen sofa for slow mornings.

You will be able to bed down in Strahan at one of these two gorgeous shacks (although, the word shack doesn't seem to do these beautiful stays justice.)

When you are there - make sure you wander into town and grab a coffee and a sweet treat from @thecoffeeshack.strahan. The chocolate cake looks delish! Drive out to Ocean Beach for a wild and windy walk, or just curl up with a good book. Heavenly.

Sleeps 4, 2 Bedrooms

The Post Office

Waratah

Up the road at Waratah you will find luxury accommodation in a lovingly restored turn of last century (1913) Post Office. Heritage listed and filled with a curated collection of antiques, oil paintings and unique pieces.

You can use the Post Office as your base for exploring Cradle Mountain National Park (45 minutes away). Or even closer is Guide Falls - just 35 minutes away. Or if you're feeling adventurous head to Corinna, to cruise or kayak through the Tarkine wilderness.

The Bischoff Hotel, Waratah (a few doors down from the Post Office) sounds like just the spot to grab some dinner and a beer at the end of a day exploring.

Granary sleeps 6 and Cottage sleeps 4

The Granary (and Cottage)

Cressy

On your way back to Launceston (because you'll probably need to fly home at some point) there is the stunning Granary, Cressy.

A beautifully restored, 1820's sandstone building that is surrounded by manicured gardens...just a few words cannot do it justice! All you need to know is, this place makes you feel instantly at home, has magnificent views of the Western Tiers and the Macquarie River is only a short walk away.

In 2023, owners Fiona and Nick launched the Cottage on the same property as The Granary and offers two beautifully designed bedrooms and open plan living.

Just 20 minutes from Launceston airport and back to reality.

EVENT - Festivale Launceston - A three day celebration that offers food, beverages, and entertainment. One of our faves Matt Moran will be in action this year - the event runs from Fri 2nd Feb - Sun 4th Feb - so you’ll need to get your skates on for this one.
