Location: Allora, QLD

Getting there: 2 hours from Brisbane, 45 minutes from Toowoomba

Sleeps: 4

Bedrooms: 2

The Property:

Be held gently at The Nesting Post, a dreamy, curated 1929 cottage for lovers and friends to slow and connect. Nestled amidst country gardens, it is your exclusive off grid retreat where stories are told, love is shared and memories created. Be charmed by rural views, entranced by starry skies and wander country roads to nowhere. The Nesting Post is a deep breath in and a long slow exhale in your busy life.

With two bedrooms, both with queen beds, two bathrooms, both with clawfoot baths, a fully equipped kitchen and laundry, the cottage is your home in the country. The front verandah overlooks the garden and paddocks to the west, while the back alfresco area with firepit and BBQ is perfect for snuggling down under a starry sky. The cottage, surrounding garden, outdoor living and firepit areas are exclusively yours to enjoy. We share the driveway which separates the cottage and our residence.

When we brought the cottage to our garden on the back of a truck, we intentionally positioned her with your comfort and privacy paramount. The winter sun streams into the living areas with hearty cheer while cooling summer breezes whisper through the back door and windows. No matter the season, the cottage is light and airy and refreshing, but with the strike of a match becomes a warm and toasty cocoon.

Our goal is for The Nesting Post to be your ideal escape, providing sanctuary in a hectic world, a country retreat for connection and nurture. We planned The Nesting Post as a space to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life - there is no television, but there are board games, a record player with a collection of old favs from the 70s and 80s, a considered library, a wood burning fireplace inside and a firepit outside, spaces for meditation, lovely places to wander, sunrises and sunsets, starry skies and views forever.

About your local community:

The cottage is situated just up the road from Allora, a quaint historic Darling Downs town surrounded by prime farming land. It is possibly most famous for its sunflowers and childhood home of Mary Poppins author, PL Travers.

Allora has all the services of a small country town, including a great butcher, country pub and some lovely places to enjoy a coffee and casual meal. Dalrymple Creek meanders alongside the town with paved creek-side walking/riding paths and a fabulous country golf course within the town boundary. A signed self-guided historic walk leads you through the town's history and rural Queensland architecture.

Allora is an easy two-hour drive from Brisbane City. It's ideally located as a gateway to both The Granite Belt, an hour south and Toowoomba, 45 minutes north. The Rose City of Warwick and Main Range National Park, Goomburra are both less than 30 minutes away.

What is your favourite thing to do at this property:

Nature has a way of calming and slowing us. Finishing the day with a late afternoon walk, watching the sun set over the paddocks, then lighting the firepit and settling in for a night of quiet conversation under a starry sky is hard to beat.

What is your favourite trip close by:

Oh, that's a hard question! It really depends on the season! In Spring the beauty of Toowoomba's parks and gardens and of course the Carnival of Flowers beckons us north. In Winter, Warwick and the surrounding villages come alive with the quirky Jumpers and Jazz in July festival. An Autumn drive through the Granite Belt to Tenterfield to see the vibrancy of the trees and to swish through the fallen leaves is so uplifting. While we're there we park at the top of the main street and mosey our way down through the shops and cafes, always finding treasures. Having four distinct seasons is definitely one of the greatest gifts of our region.

Guests should not forget to pack….

Some winter woolies, or a least a jumper! Allora nights can be cool, if not downright cold, even in the middle of Summer.

How did you come to offer accommodation in the bush?

Inspired by our bucket list, in 2021 we moved a 1929 workers cottage from Toowoomba to our garden and renovated it so guests can share the joy we feel every day to call this special place home. Renovating the cottage was a labour of love with every decision considered and mindful as we sought to honour her humble beginnings and recycle, repurpose and source locally whenever possible, choosing slow over easy. We set about cultivating an aesthetic that emphasises beauty in imperfection and individual choices. And when the building was finished, we filled her with layer upon layer of curated vintage selections, time honoured curios and luxurious textiles to create a space that nurtures all of your senses so you feel enveloped and spoilt from the moment you arrive. We are proud to be completely off grid and aim to live sustainably in our contemporary world.
