Basalt Luxury Studios (Orange, NSW)

$0.00

Location: Orange, NSW

Getting there: 4 hours from Sydney

3 luxury studios sleeping 1-2 guests each

The Property:

Basalt Luxury Studios feature 3 units each with the same simple yet functional layout designed to make the most of the breathtaking views of the region. Whether you're settling back into the lounge, feet up in front of the wood fire, laying in the king size bed, submerged in the concrete bathtub, enjoying dinner on the deck or preparing it in the kitchen - you will not grow tired of the amazing vista.

Built 80m apart, each studio has been constructed with utmost precision featuring rammed earthen walls and spotted gum interiors. They have then been furnished with the same quality ethos we take to growing fruit on the orchard. Your comfort and experience is our top priority so when you leave, you leave relaxed and rejuvenated.

About your local community:

You can't really pigeonhole Orange (& surrounding villages) to suit any one sort of person. It's the best of both worlds as we're out in the bush but not too far from the (metro) cities. We've got every layer that you could possibly want all wrapped up with a genuine warmth that you expect from a country town. Great food & wine is the launchpad to so much more including: bike & walking trails, galleries, exhibitions and events, indigenous culture, an amazing night sky, scenic drives, quaint villages, parks & gardens and boutique shopping. Orange was and still is a primary production region growing grapes, apples and cherries (amongst a lot of other produce) of the highest quality thanks to our cool climate and rich basalt soils. It's cliche but there really is something for everyone!

What is your favourite thing to do at this property:

At 1100m above sea level, the views are breathtaking. I love getting a little lost in my thoughts whenever I go up there & simply stare. The sunrises are off the charts. It's so good for the soul!

What is your favourite trip close by:

We don't do it often but when we go exploring some of the surrounding villages we always find something new & interesting to explore. The kids are never excited to go but always come back wanting more. Carcoar is our latest favourite but we also loved a recent Rylstone trip.

Guests should not forget to pack… a good book.

How did you come to offer accommodation in the bush?

Our story started in 1979 when mum & dad (Graham & Sue) decided to leave their home in Sydney and raise their young family in the country. I (Simon) was 4 years old at the time and my sister was 5. The romantic idea of owning a fruit orchard and living on acreage in the cool climate city of Orange soon became a reality of hard work and meagre incomes. Orcharding as it turned out wasn't all that romantic although the country air and relative freedom to simply live was something that has changed all of us for the better as the years have gone by. The various fruit varieties gave way to a focus on cherries and one property became two in the early 2,000's. Now boasting over 12,000 cherry trees, our "Cherries from Heaven" are graded & packed on-site and shipped right around Australia and to a number of overseas destinations each summer. The opportunity to diversify was bubbling away however and a fortuitous COVID enforced family camping trip in early 2020 was the catalyst behind opening up a very special part of the orchard to guests through the construction of 3 architecturally designed studios which opened in Feb 2023. We are so excited to share Basalt with the world!
