The Property:

The Post Office is a 1913 heritage-listed post office that has been lovingly restored, and transformed into a luxury escape for couples but accommodates up to four guests. Located directly across the road from the Waratah Waterfall there are expansive views from every window.

With many of its original features intact, such as 4.2 metre high pressed tin ceilings, arched sash windows, the original cedar post office counter, brass fixtures and walk in bank safe, The Post Office's varied and rich history is evident for guests to interact with and enjoy.

The space has been designed to be sympathetic to the era with comfort in mind. Filled with a curated collection of antiques, oil paintings and unique pieces. The wood pellet fire is the centre of the living area with exposed brick fireplace to the ceiling. The cosy feather filled extra long sofa and custom velvet bench seat are perfect for curling up with a book or with your morning coffee and overlook the ever changing views of Happy Valley and Tarkine rainforest.

The main bedroom is located in a private corner of the open plan living area. The layout, designed with privacy and comfort in mind, features a floor to ceiling velvet curtain and purpose-built half wall to successfully separate the living and sleeping quarters.

The cosy second bedroom boasts a bed nook, with a cast iron bath. The layout, warm colour palette and lighting has been purposefully designed to create a romantic space, into which guests can retreat.

The main bathroom has underfloor heating and a large, level access shower and toilet.

The original post office counter has been re-purposed into an island bench in the kitchen which takes centre stage in the main living area.

We have a full kitchen that includes a 5 gas burner ILVE oven and a large SMEG fridge, freezer and microwave, which are perfect for novice and avid cooks alike that choose to bunker down, extend your stay and really explore the breadth of Tasmania's west coast.

About your local community:

Waratah is a small country town right on the edge of the Tarkine wilderness with a waterfall at its centre. It's the perfect base from which to explore Cradle Mountain and Tasmania's western wilderness attractions. The town is peaceful and quiet and can easily be explored on foot, with the beautiful Lake Waratah and Ringtail Falls as well as the abandoned Waratah Power Station also within walking distance. The Bischoff Hotel which is a few doors down is a great place to chat with the locals and grab a drink and a bite to eat.

What is your favourite thing to do at this property:

When we arrive we often find it hard to leave. We like to bring all our supplies with us and bunker down for a few days. We love to cook so we do a lot of that, long soaks in the tub and we like to get up early with a freshly brewed coffee and drink that overlooking the waterfall. When we do venture out Philosophers Falls is 10 minutes away.

What is your favourite trip close by:

Cradle Mountain is a picturesque 40 minute drive away and is always a favourite day trip. After a hike, The Waldheim Alpine Spa is the perfect place to relax in their outdoor hot tub, sauna and steam room.

Guests should not forget to pack their….
Hiking boots. Many of the West Coast’s attractions are best explored by foot.

How did you come to offer accommodation in the bush?

After spending lots of time in other people’s “shacks” we were fortunate enough to be able to purchase one of our own. We had been looking across the whole of Tasmania for about four months when the cutest little building popped up. It was originally the old Waratah Post Office. We are Tasmanian however haven’t ever been to Waratah (shameful I know). We did a round trip of Tasmania to view the property and it was love at first sight, we put an offer in the next day.
