Bushy Summers (Strahan, TAS)
Location: Strahan, TAS
Getting there: 4hr 15min from Hobart
Sleeps: 2 guests
Bushy Summers has been designed by artists, Claire Lloyd and Matthew Usmar Lauder, purely to nurture you and feed your creative soul. Resting on the shores of Lettes Bay, Tasmania, Bushy Summers is the most private shack in the bay. It is simple and cosy with stunning views to help you unwind and feel inspired as you disconnect in nature and reconnect to self.
This is truly a magical place and the perfect romantic retreat for one to two people.
Your day will gently unfold as you wake up to the sound of birdsong or the quack of the resident ducks as they wander up and down the bay. Pull back the curtains and look out to the bay, completely relax as you curl up with a pot of tea and book in the comfy double bed.
Soak in the luxurious cast iron claw foot bath and glimpse the gum tree tops, cook your favourite meal in our simple, little kitchen or sit out on the deck with a glass of Tasmanian wine and read, write, paint and feel inspired.

Bushy Summers sits tucked away at the end of the bay next to neighbouring historic miner shacks. The close-knit community is what makes Lettes Bay so special.
What is your favourite thing to do at the property?
We love just being and Bushy is the perfect spot to observe. Looking out over Lettes Bay is like watching an ever-changing painting. We love to paint, draw, photograph and film and of course spending time with our resident duck friends.
Favourite day trip nearby?
To be honest we find it difficult to leave the tranquillity of the bay but a boat trip up the Gordon River is pretty special.
Guests shouldn't forget to pack their...
Their camera, a journal or sketch book and something warm and cosy - a pair of good walking boots and a raincoat.
How did you come to offer accommodation in the Bush?
I had become enchanted by the state (TAS) on a spontaneous trip to meet and photograph the potter Zsolt Faludi whose work I love. The following year I went back with my partner Matthew and we visited Lettes Bay for the first time. On arrival I was immediately struck by the unique beauty of the place and I said to Matthew ‘WOW, what do we have to do to get a place around here?' He wandered off and struck up a conversation with a guy who by chance was looking to sell his nearby shack. When Matthew asked if I thought he should buy it, it was an immediate yes from me. It took us about six months all up to renovate the shack and was a real labour of love. It was both challenging and extremely rewarding.
