River's End Retreat (Albany, WA)
Closest Town: Albany, Western Australia
Getting there: 4 hours & 45 minutes from Perth
Sleeps: 2
Bedrooms: 1
The Property:
River’s End Retreat is nestled amongst the red gums, overlooking the Kalgan River. Close enough to hear the fish rising in the river in the evenings.
Located on 30 acres, we are a small working farm. Sheep, alpacas and horses graze the paddocks and you may even get a visit from one of our pet kangaroos.
Jez and I (Gemma) have built this tiny house retreat using two second-hand shipping containers. It’s been a really fun process watching them transform into a thing of cosy luxury.
The Retreat has a full kitchen, with a bath and rain shower in the bathroom. Big comfy King bed. Also a deck and fire pit overlooking the river.
About your local community:
A 20min drive from River’s End is the laid back, sea side community of Albany. It has something for everyone. Beautiful quiet beaches, walking trails, mountain bike trails but also farmers markets, restaurants, wineries and micro breweries.
Albany has a rich history. It was the last port the Australian and New Zealand troops saw before leaving Australia for WW1. The ANZAC centre is a must see located on top of Mt Clarence over looking King George Sound. It also has a very moving dawn service on ANZAC day.
What is your favourite thing to do at this property:
My favourite thing to do on our property is to listen to the osprey calling to each other and watch them fishing in the river. Also to watch the sun set over the river.
What is your favourite trip close by:
My favourite day trip is visiting Little Beach and Waterfall Beach in Two Peoples Bay National Park. Just 10 min from our door, these beach are stunning.
Guests should not forget to pack their….walking shoes and ugg boots in winter. A fishing rod too.
How did you come to offer accommodation in the bush?
We are lucky enough to live in a pretty special part of the world. It’s been so lovely to share our neck of the woods with guests for a completely different change of pace. Jez and I have always wondered what we could do with a couple of shipping containers. The process of changing them from something that would have sailed the high seas to something of tranquillity and luxury has been so much fun.
