Looking for an adventure, an escape, or just an opportunity to reconnect with nature? ‘Wildernest’ offers a unique off-grid experience, staying in a tiny house (nicknamed "T1) nestled amongst the bushland on the edge of the Wingello Forest.

T1 is an architecturally designed, sustainably built tiny house. It's small by its very nature, but it's clever design and a few little luxuries help max out every nook and cranny of the space. The tiny house operates completely off-grid, running off solar for power and gas for heating and cooking. T1 opens out onto a large undercover deck that overlooks a rolling rural landscape in one direction and the adjoining forest in the other.

Just moments walk from your tiny house, you'll find yourself in the forest surrounded by 100 year old gums, spotting a mob of kangaroos and following the sound of the trickling stream to a small waterfall. You'll come home from your adventures to a hot shower, a cold drink and a kitchen equipped with the essentials to cook up a storm. After settling in by the firepit until well into the evening, you'll eventually pile into a comfortable bed made with luxurious french linen sheets.

The whole idea of Wildernest is an off-grid wilderness experience that offers an escape to a secluded area. It’s all about nature, big gulps of fresh air and whole lot of R&R. For the more restless types, its a great base for an adventure - bush walking, mountain biking, wildlife spotting, forest bathing - or perhaps exploring the Southern Highlands foodie hot spots is more your thing.

About your local community:

Closest to villages of Wingello and Tallong, both of which were hit by the 2020 bushfires but are making a sensational recovery. Lots of entrepreneurship in the region - breweries, wineries, flower farms with workshops and tours, market gardeners, so many places to visit!

As the owner, what is your favourite thing to do at this property:

Wildlife spotting is always a highlight and there are loads of fabulous bushwalking tracks, but we mostly love to light the fire pit and settle in for the afternoon toasting marshmallows and chatting until well into the evening.

What is your favourite trip close by:

All the local villages all have farmers markets, lots of foodie experiences (wineries, breweries, truffle hunting, mushroom and wild food foraging, etc) as well as bush walking and mountain biking options throughout Wingello State Forest and Morton National Park.

Guests should not forget to pack their…. walking boots, a bottle of wine and a good book to read

How did you come to offer accommodation in the bush?

After a few decades of living in the big smoke, we moved our family away from the frenetic crammed craziness of city life to the Southern Highlands, a place that offered a slower pace with more space. We’ve loved every aspect of this transition – fresh air, room to roam and for the kids to run like wild, space to grow our own produce and to tread a lighter environmental footprint. The idea of Wildernest came about after having countless conversations with our city friends wanting to escape the city, wanting to unplug, unwind and to take a break from it all. So we created T1 and T2 tiny houses in one of the most beautiful spots we know. The idea being a totally off-the-grid escape, one that is eco-friendly and treads lightly on its beautiful surrounds, but still has all the little luxuries to make for a incredibly unique experience.
